Your 2012 Candidates for Executive Committee

(Two-year term begins July 1, 2012)

 

  • President
    • Wayne Burton (WC)
    • I am running again for President of State APSCURF because I can contribute to and aid in energetic and pro-active measures on behalf of retired Faculty.
    • Our pension cost of living increases (COLAs) have been non-existent for over 10 years now, and medical benefits continue to be under assault from the State Legislature, and PASSHE.
    • I have been actively part of the alliance of all PA state retiree organizations, Retirement Security Coalition (RSC), as APSCURF President and will continue to work as part of RSC to protect ourselves, and our families.
    • APSCURF’s decision to hire our own part-time lobbyist has been a good investment which has provided direct access to many members of the State Legislature and members of the Governor’s staff as we continue to work for an annual COLA.
    • I believe we have successfully added to the effectiveness of our annual State Legislative Council meetings of all local APSCURF chapter presidents and instituted regular e-mail contacts with local chapters.
    • The additions to the info on the APSCURF section of the APSCUF webpage make vital information more readily available to our retirees.
    • I have maintained strong relationships with the State APSCUF staff who serve us and work well with them.
    • I have attended almost all State APSCUF Legislative Assembly meetings over the past 2 years in order to stay informed on issues facing our Faculties and to report as needed to the Assembly about retiree concerns. And, we need to work to see that more adequate and timely information about retirement money options and ways to minimize tax impacts is provided by local campuses to active Faculty early in their careers.
    • I retired in 2000 after 35 years teaching political science and organizational administration. Active service at WCU included: Dept. Chairperson, State APSCUF Legislative Assembly Delegate, State Audit Committee, Local and State CAP committees, VP WCU APSCUF, Chair of WCU Tenure, Promotions, Merit and Sabbatical Leave Committee, Chair of WCU University Budget Committee, WCU Curriculum and Academic Policies Committee Dept. Delegate, and two years as Faculty Director of SSHE THIS internship program in Harrisburg.
    • In the local community I served for 7 years as an elected member of West Chester Borough Council, and served as Treasurer of the Municipal Authority.
    • I am a 35-year veteran Scout leader.
    • I am active in Church work and have managed a major genealogy research and information center for 6 years.
    • I served 6 years as County political party chairperson and concluded 9 yr’s service on Dem State Committee Spring 2010.
    • With this experience and these commitments, I offer my candidacy.
  • Vice President
    • Mary Jo Campbell (ED)
    • I am submitting my name for Vice President.
    • I am currently finishing up my first term and feel that I can offer more to our membership with my experience in the office.
    • As a retired faculty member from Edinboro, I also serve as our local vice president.
    • As a member of APSCUF, I served as local representative, delegate, secretary, vice president, grievance chair, and Meet and Discuss member.
    • On the state level I served on Grievance, Public Relations, Audit, and meeting facilities committees.
    • By serving on these offices and committees, I feel that I can contribute to our state APSCURF membership.
  • Secretary
    • Monita Lank (WC)
    • I am requesting the opportunity to serve APSCURF in the position of APSCURF Secretary.
    • During my four years as delegate, I have presented the items approved by the APSCURF Executive Committee and Legislative Council to the APSCUF Delegate Assembly. I have also kept the membership informed by reporting the actions of the APSCUF Delegate Assembly to the APSCURF Executive Committee and Legislative Council in an accurate and timely manner.
    • I remain fully committed to the current goals of APSCURF which include: 1. Obtain an annual COLA for all annuitants of SERS and PSERS and the surviving spouses of deceased annuitants. (the work on this continues despite of the current downturn in the economy).2. Secure health care coverage for surviving spouses of deceased annuitants. 3. Establish equity for all annuitants retiring from the Pennsylvania State System of Higher Education. (PASSHE).My experience with APSCURF includes serving as Vice President for five and one half years and as a delegate for four years. In these capacities I have become familiar with the interaction between APSCUF and APSCURF goals.
    • My association with APSCUF began with its inception whereby I served as a delegate or alternate for fourteen years. I also served APSCUF as Vice President from 1992-1998.
    • I believe that I can continue to provide service to APSCURF and am requesting your support for my candidacy as APSCURF Secretary.
  • Treasurer
    • Roy Pointer (BL)
    • I am happy to be a candidate for another term as APSCURF Treasurer.
    • If elected, I will use what I have learned during my first term as well as what I learned from my previous extensive experience in APSCUF to strengthen and improve APSCURF.
    • My experience includes the following: APSCURF Treasurer 7/1/2010 – 6/30/2012; Officer-at-Large on the Executive Council of APSCUF 1999-2005; APSCUF Negotiations Team 4/98-11/99 and 4/01-4/04; APSCUF Personnel Committee 1999-2005; Bloomsburg Delegate to the APSCUF Legislative Assembly 1974-1977 and 1997-2005; President of the Bloomsburg Chapter of APSCUF 1997-2003 and various other local and state-wide committees in APSCUF.
    • I taught chemistry at Bloomsburg University for 35 years and served as Chairperson of the Chemistry Department from 1977 to 1987.
    • I served on the Bloomsburg University Planning and Budget Committee from 1997 to 2003 and on a wide variety of other university committees during my career at Bloomsburg University
  • Delegate
    • Don Mayer (SH)
    • I am a candidate for the position of APSCURF delegate to the APSCUF Legislative Assembly.
    • Since my retirement from Shippensburg University in June 2005, I have served APSCURF members as State APSCURF President (4 years), Past-President (2 years), and Legislative/CAP Chair (2 years).
    • I have been attending APSCUF Legislative Assemblies in various capacities since the mid-1970’s.
    • I believe that because of my varied involvement in APSCUF before 2005 and my service to APSCURF in more recent years, that I am well qualified to serve the APSCURF membership as delegate to the APSCUF Legislative Assembly.

    • I am a candidate for the position of APSCURF Alternate Delegate.
    • Academic Record: California University of PA, Cornell University, University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill and Pennsylvania State University
    • Teaching Experience: Five years Public High School; Clarion State U,1961-1966; Cal U of Pa 1966-2001 Professor of Physical Science.
    • In 2003, I received the APSCUF Distinguished Service Award.
    • My APSCUF experience includes being a Health & Welfare Trustee and a Delegate to Legislative Assembly for many years.
