Protest budget cuts!

Students & faculty should attend and be vocal in campus & local rallies! Let's stand united in support for our students and the continuing health of affordable, high-quality public college education.


Rally for Public Education at West Chester Courthouse
May 3, 2012 - 7 p.m.

 

Faculty are in the classroom for 12 hours a week. Have you ever wondered what else they do?

  • advise student organizations such as the Quad (campus newspaper), Students in Communication, Shotokan Karate Club, Spanish Club, Pre-Law Society, National Council of Teachers of English affiliate – see the full list here
    ● 
    advise students about classes, programs, and careers
    offer students individual attention during office hours and through email
    take students on trips to historical places, archives, musical events, and more
    engage in thoughtful and respected research and scholarship
    explain programs to prospective students at special campus events
    attend commencement and awards ceremonies
    involve alumni in campus and department activities
    ● serve on campus and community committees and boards
    spend time adjusting syllabi and learning new techniques for teaching improvement
    arrange cultural activities for the campus and for students
    keep on top of new trends in their fields of expertise
    respond to legislative and administrative mandates, for  example, from accrediting bodies and the Pennsylvania Department of Education
    and much, much more!

Dr. Nadine Bean is just one of the WCU faculty who do a lot!

* received Lifetime Achievement Award from the National Association of Social Workers, PA Chapter in fall 2011

* co-founded the WCU Faculty Mentoring Committee and have served as Coordinator for the Program for three of the last four years

* served on the PA (Licensing) Board of Social Workers, Marriage and Family Therapists and Professional Counselors (2007-2011), appointed by the Governor

* Disaster Mental Health Services volunteer for the American Red Cross, serve on local, regional and national disasters  - first deployment was in NYC after 9/11

* National Trainer and volunteer for the American Red Cross, Service to the Armed Forces

* provides pro bono counseling services to military members, military families, and veterans through The Soldiers Project

* currently writing a book: Resilience and Trauma Informed Practice with Individuals, Families, and Communities Who Have Experienced Disaster, Trauma, and/or War

Scholarships available:
