Benefits for part-time faculty:

To qualify for benefits with the PA Faculty Health and Welfare Fund, part-time faculty must have worked at least 25% of full-time in any one (1) of the preceding three (3) semesters. The benefit package shall be provided after the initial waiting period of one (1) semester is served, and thereafter, so long as benefit claims are incurred while part-time faculty are employed by the State System of Higher Education and work at least 25% of full time. (The initial eligibility waiting period of one (1) semester shall only be served once by part-time faculty who work continuously for at least one (1) semester each academic year.)

Part-time faculty who work 25% to 49% of full-time are eligible for member only benefits. Part-time faculty who work 50%–99% of full-time are eligible for member benefits AND their lawful spouses or same-sex domestic partners are eligible for benefits. The term “spouse” includes any same-sex spouse. Unless a part-time faculty member is working at least 50% of full-time, his or her spouse/eligible same-sex domestic partner will not be eligible for benefits.

HEALTHY U

The Healthy U wellness year runs from Jan. 1 – May 31, 2021. Per Article 21.A.3.c, the only requirement is completion of an annual health assessment for Highmark PPO subscribers and their enrolled spouse. Failure to complete the assessment will result in a 10% penalty added to your health insurance premium for the period July 1, 2021 – June 30, 2022.

The current health assessment is Sharecare’s RealAge Test. If you have not yet completed the RealAge Test, you will be required to agree to the annual ADA and GINA authorization when you create or log into your existing account. You do not need to agree to the HIPAA authorization to complete the RealAge Test (see the Jan. 13, 2021, member newsletter (login required)).

Complete information is available on the State System Healthy U page, or contact Bim Arthun at 800-932-0587, ext. 3021, or via email at barthun@apscuf.org.

FACULTY AND COACHES INTERNSHIP

APSCUF’s faculty and coaches orientation internship is for APSCUF members who have some local APSCUF responsibility and are interested in expanding a working knowledge of the union. Interns spend a week in the summer in the Harrisburg office to observe the entire spectrum of union administration. They interact with staff members who serve in various capacities. The program aims to prepare APSCUF members for increased local and/or state responsibilities. Click here to download an application and more information about hotels, travel, and meals. Questions? Email Katie Jeffries at kjeffries@apscuf.org.
