Following the Middle States Commission on Higher Education’s actions on consolidations, the Association of Pennsylvania State College and University Faculties has released the following statement from its president, Dr. Jamie Martin:

“The decision by the Middle States Commission on Higher Education was anticipated and represents another step in the process of consolidation. We did note that MSCHE made a request for additional information, including updated financial projections and organizational charts for the consolidated universities by early May. This decision provides some certainty for our students. Our faculty have been working diligently to ensure excellent curricula and programs are in place at the consolidated universities; this decision will not change their ongoing work. We now await the decision by the NCAA regarding the continuation of athletic teams at the six universities. That decision is of great importance to our coaches and our student-athletes. Finally, we hope that the decision by MSCHE will result in the General Assembly approving the governor’s budget request for increased support for our universities and our students, which is long overdue.”

APSCUF represents about 5,000 faculty and coaches at the State System universities: Bloomsburg, California, Cheyney, Clarion, East Stroudsburg, Edinboro, Indiana, Kutztown, Lock Haven, Mansfield, Millersville, Shippensburg, Slippery Rock, and West Chester Universities of Pennsylvania.
