High student debt + no jobs = ???
The issue of student debt is central to what we stand for at APSCUF and in the statute that created the state system of higher education: we are supposed to be “affordable.”
This rally in Philadelphia, and those like it, indicates there is at least some failure on the part of the Commonwealth at following that tenet, or else there’d be no impetus for such a rally. read more…
Senate Education Committee discusses proposals to update PA State System of Higher Education
The Senate Education Committee, chaired by Sen. Jeff Piccola, held a hearing today on a package of bills championed by Sen. Andy Dinnimanthat would update state law related to the Pennsylvania State System of Higher Education (PASSHE). There are currently six bills; each one is sponsored by a senator who represents a PASSHE institution or is a trustee at one of the universities. read more…
APSCUF endorses Wecht and Boockvar, encourages all members to register and vote
The Association of Pennsylvania State College and University Faculties (APSCUF) has endorsed two judicial candidates for the upcoming November 8 municipal election. There is one vacancy on the Pennsylvania Superior Court and one for the Commonwealth Court. Judge David Wecht is the APSCUF-endorsed candidate for the Pennsylvania Superior Court, and Kathryn Boockvar is the APSCUF-endorsed candidate for the Commonwealth Court of Pennsylvania. read more…
State System Board of Governors approves state budget request with 2.1 percent increase
The Pennsylvania State System of Higher Education (PASSHE) held its quarterly Board of Governors meeting Oct. 5-6 at the Dixon University Center in Harrisburg. At the top of Thursday’s agenda was a vote on PASSHE’s appropriation request for fiscal year 2012-13. read more…
