East Stroudsburg University honors APSCUF members as 2011 Distinguished Professors
The professors and coaches of APSCUF know that their fellow members are not just dedicated to their professional organization. APSCUF members are equally dedicated to their universities, their students and their communities.

Is public higher education a budget priority in Pennsylvania?
That’s the question up for debate this fall as the state Senate holds hearings on the impact of the current budget on the state-related universities. On Wednesday, Sept. 7, Penn State president Graham Spanier warned lawmakers that additional cuts would necessitate much larger tuition hikes. Senate Appropriations chairman Jake Corman pointed out that funding for the state-related universities was $685 million in 2001 and has dropped to $559 million with the last budget. read more…
Faculty members on strike at Long Island University
Even though professors at Central Michigan University have returned to their classrooms to await a fact finding report, some are still on the picket lines exercising their First Amendment rights and protesting their lack of a contract.
Higher education professionals in New York are also on the picket lines. At Long Island University (LIU), faculty contracts ended on Aug. 31. This week negotiations broke down, and faculty members at the school’s Brooklyn and C.W. Post campuses voted to strike. read more…
IUP senior wins 2011 state APSCUF scholarship
Each year APSCUF awards a $3,000 scholarship to a student at one of the 14 universities in the Pennsylvania State System of Higher Education (PASSHE). In addition to being enrolled at a PASSHE school, applicants must be a family member of an APSCUF member. Each applicant must submit two letters of reference from APSCUF members and a 500-word essay.
This year’s winner is Robin M. Beisel, a senior at Indiana University of Pennsylvania. read more…
Right to Work bills debated in Harrisburg
You may have heard that the state House recently discussed “right to work” legislation. Here’s a report on what’s happening in Pennsylvania and in other states, from APSCUF assistant director of governmental relations Lauren Gutshall.
Earlier this month, the state House Labor and Industry Committee held a hearing on so-called “Right to Work” legislation – a package of four house bills that aim to limit rights and protections for workers by making Pennsylvania a Right-to-Work state and eliminating the fair share fee. read more…
