Peruse vintage postcards, historical documents, athletic programs, 100-year-old examinations and more in the State APSCUF office. APSCUF President Dr. Kenneth M. Mash has donated his eBay finds to display in the organization’s Harrisburg headquarters, and we’ve moved some existing historical displays into more prominent locations throughout the office. Some of the items on display have reverse sides or contents rendered inaccessible through framing, so visitors can relax in the lobby and thumb through “Artifacts in the APSCUF office,” a book showing the reverse sides of postcards, the pages of a football program, and more. (Our favorite postcard message: “Well Miss Emma, I would like to here (sic) from you. My number is 3443 in the book. W.F.J. I am a (sic) assit (sic) baggage agent, and I am single.”)

If you have artifacts you’d like to donate, we’d love to give them a good home. Old State System yearbooks, sports programs, other event programs, paintings, etc., are welcome. Contact with a description and photograph of your items.

At the end of each semester, we at APSCUF like to highlight the work of our faculty and coaches across the Commonwealth who are going above and beyond in their work. In case you missed any from this semester, here is a roundup of some of their accomplishments.

Bloomsburg University’s Dave Kube, assistant professor of photography, was featured in Lock Haven University’s John Sloan Fine Arts Center Gallery.

Mark Tebbitt at California University educated us on the return of the cicadas.

Herbert Black, Cheyney University’s faculty representative to APSCUF’s legislative assembly, updated his fellow delegates on the school’s situation in April.

Faculty at Clarion University, including Gwyneth Price, are ahead of the curve when it comes to special education.

Chadd Braine, East Stroudsburg University’s assistant football coach, helped bring awareness to bone marrow donations.

Jingze Jiang of Edinboro University was selected as the co-chair for the Federal Reserve Bank of Cleveland’s 2019 undergraduate research competition.

Josiah Townsend, an associate professor at IUP, was a 2019-20 Fulbright U.S. Scholar grant recipient.

Erin Kraal, associate professor at Kutztown University, won first prize for her haiku at the Lunar and Planetary Science Conference in Houston.

Retired Lock Haven University field hockey Coach Sharon Taylor received the National Field Hockey Coaches Association’s first-ever lifetime achievement award.

A Mansfield art professor, Kenneth Cobb, connected with the local community through free weekend workshops.

Millersville University’s Tony Elliot retired this semester but has left a lasting impact on students.

Becky Thomas of Slippery Rock University received the President’s Award for Excellence in Teaching.

Shippensburg University Professor Jayleen Galarza received a TRIO Achiever Award through the U.S. Department of Education.

Brandon Mitchell of West Chester University worked with an international coalition of scientists on simple color tuning of LED bulbs.

Millersville University student Abbey Ford will work in the state office through August. Click here to learn more about future APSCUF internships.

Our new government-and-communications intern for summer 2019 is Abbey Ford. Ford attends Millersville University, where she studies political affairs and history.

Ford spends her time on campus working with the Student Government Association, the Office of Sustainability, and the Walker Center for Civic Responsibility & Leadership. She is also the student adviser to the Millersville Borough Council.

“I am excited to take what I have learned from the classroom and transfer it into a work environment,” Ford said. ”There is much to be learned in Harrisburg as a student hoping to break into politics.”

Ford’s passion toward Millersville and the Commonwealth is what drove her to apply to APSCUF, and she hopes to bring that same passion to work every day, she said.

The Association of Pennsylvania State College and University Faculties and Pennsylvania’s State System of Higher Education have released a joint statement as contract negotiations begin. Click here to read the release.

APSCUF faculty members this week voted overwhelmingly in favor of the faculty phased-retirement side-letter. The next step is approval by the State System. You can read today’s press release here.
